Welcome to Heath Hypnotherapy West London and congratulations on finding Wise Hippo Hypnobirthing classes

My name is Alex Heath and I had such an amazing experience using hypnobirth techniques for the birth of my son 9 years ago that it inspired me to find out more about hypnosis and retrain as a Clinical Hypnotherapist.

You’ve probably found this page because you are interested in learning more about this powerful program that enables women world wide to have calm and comfortable natural births.

Here are some of the common questions mums ask about the course:

Is Hypnobirthing for me?

If you are considering a calm, comfortable, easier and natural birth then yes. People often assume that HypnoBirth is an ‘alternative’ antenatal method but actually it is a common sense method and is so effective that it has been adopted by the NHS in some hospitals in the UK.

Can I find out more about Hypnobirthing and how it works?

Yes! The next free taster session is at Mothercare Kew

on Sunday, December 13th at 11am

The session will be free but booking is essential

Please call or text 07739 849731 to secure your place.
All those attending receive 15% off the group course fee

Do you doula?

Yes I do!

After completing my doula training with the amazing Kicki Hansard last in February this year I am now a mentored birth doula. This means I am still going through a period of training but as part of this training I can attend births. I am fully booked now for 2015 but currently taking bookings for 2016.

As a mentored doula my birth doula fee is much reduced and includes two antenatal classes and one post natal visit too. I also offer discounted packages that include the full Wise Hippo hypnobirthing course. Please click here to email for more information on availability, packages and fees.

Research in 1993 by Klaus, Kennell & Klaus found that:

  • Shortens first-time labour by an average of 2 hours
  • Decreases the chance of caesarean section by 50%
  • Decreases the need for pain medication
  • Helps fathers participate with confidence
  • Increases success in breastfeeding

  • Does Hypnobirthing mean a pain free birth?

Not necessarily, but the course aims to empower mums and dads with techniques that if practiced daily can make natural birth an easier and enjoyable experience.

Will hypnosis during birth mean that I am out of control?

Often our experience and knowledge of hypnosis is informed by what we may have seen on TV or stage and because of this we can be concerned that we will act strangely or against our will. Self hypnosis techniques are nothing like this. When practiced and mastered they can empower a person to control different systems within the body from relaxation levels to blood pressure. In this sense hypnosis is an incredibly empowering technique for those who practice it. It is often assumed that under hypnosis people lose consciousness however this is not the case (although people often appear ‘out of it’) and it is always possible for a person to break their hypnotic state whenever they choose.

    What if I have a C Section?

Read about Danielle and Darren's experience when a surprise breach meant a change of plan to the water birth they had envisioned.

'I loved the sessions we did with Alex, every week i became more and more excited by my impending labour, I couldn't wait to feel those early contractions and my husband and I had a very definite plan about when we would use each stage, when we would leave for the hospital, how we would welcome our baby into the world..' I had a traumatic first birth and feel anxious now I am pregnant again

It is very common for anxious feelings to return with subsequent pregnancies after experiencing a difficult or traumatic birth. However it is possible to treat these feelings and move forward with a positive expectation for future births.

Mums who have experienced difficult labours can be left suffering with a number of symptoms associated with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These can include feelings of panic, anxiety, anger, sadness and guilt. It can effect relationships with partners and sometimes even effect bonding with a new baby.

Therapy provides a safe place to reflect and understand what happened during birth. Then using a rewind technique mums are able to detach the negative feelings they have about the birth from the memory of it so that these feelings no longer haunt them. In effect the memory is neutralised. The last stage of therapy involves building and strengthening existing resources to allow mum to move forward with their life and build positive bonds with their baby and partner.

What is the best time to take a Hypnobirthing course?

There is no ‘best time’ as the benefits will be felt at anytime during pregnancy. However at 28 weeks there is plenty of time to take the 4 week course and also have time to practice the hypnobirth techniques afterwards too.

For those who discover hypnobirthing later in pregnancy a 2 week intensive course is an option. Taking an intensive course works best when mums and dads are able to commit as much time as possible to practicing the techniques and listening to the MP3 recordings.

What is the difference in a 2 day intensive course and a 4 week course?

Ideally and with time allowing a 4 week course is preferential. Four, weekly sessions allows time for essential practice in between and for mums and dads to feedback between sessions and for extra support or help to be given if necessary.

However often because of time restraints, if mums and dads have found the course late in pregnancy for example, then a intensive two week course can work just as well. The same content is covered but just in 2 x 5 hourly sessions, usually spaced a week apart. Taking the course in this way relies on mums and dads being extra diligent with their practice.

Click here for more details on both 4 week and 2 week courses.

Where and when does the course take place?

I currently offer a weekly Saturday morning course with sessions that are spread out over 4 weeks. I also an intensive 2 week course every month that usually runs on two Sundays, once a month.

Both courses are held at a private residence in Hounslow, West London in a purpose built therapy studio with aircon, heating and on site toilet. Weekly course sessions are every Saturday morning from 10am to 12.30pm. Or Sundays (for the intensive course) 9am - 2pm.

This venue is close to Twickenham Rugby ground and is walking distance from both Whitton and Hounslow BR Stations. There is plenty of free parking outside for anyone driving. Click here for a map of where we are.

Group classes in Ealing are no longer available but this area is still served for private classes.

This is where the group classes are held. A comfortable, purpose built studio in Hounslow, West London.

How much is a Wise Hippo Hypnobirth course?

The group course fee is £295. The private class fee is £395.

The course includes the official Wise Hippo handbook, 5 MP3 downloads, and course tuition.

Telephone support and additional sessions are always available for those who need it.
